The picturesque Jijabai Bhonsle Botanical Udyan in Byculla came alive with the magic of storytelling during the recently held Story Express – Storytelling Festival. Tailored specifically for children between the ages of 12 to 14, this event was a celebration of creativity, imagination, and learning. The festival attracted 30 enthusiastic students from the Seva Sadan English School, eager to explore the world of stories. The heart of the festival was the series of engaging story sessions led by talented storytellers. These sessions were carefully curated to captivate the young audience with tales that spanned a variety of genres, ranging from folklore and fables to contemporary stories. Each tale was presented with vivid expressions, inviting the students to step into the world of the story. The students were not just passive listeners, but participants in the experience, as they were encouraged to express their thoughts, ask questions, and even try their hand at creating stories of their own.
A highlight of the festival was the exciting Museum Walk, where students were taken on a tour of the museum within the botanical garden. As they strolled through the exhibits, they learned about the rich history, flora, and fauna of the region. The stories behind the artifacts and the history of the museum were brought to life by knowledgeable guides who combined facts with folklore, ensuring the students had a holistic and immersive experience. The walk was a perfect blend of education and exploration, encouraging the children to think about stories in different contexts.

After an enriching day of storytelling and discovery, the students gathered in the auditorium for a special screening of children’s films. The films featured animated stories, fairy tales, and real-life narratives that resonated with the themes explored in the sessions. These films not only entertained but also reinforced the values of empathy, kindness, and the power of storytelling in shaping young minds. The children’s excited faces as they watched their favorite characters come to life on screen were a testament to the lasting impact of visual storytelling.

The festival was a wonderful experience for our students that brought together storytelling, history, and cinema in a unique and enriching way. It encouraged them to appreciate the art of storytelling, think creatively, and expand their horizons. As the event concluded, our students left with not just memories of a fun day but a renewed sense of wonder and a deeper understanding of the power of stories in shaping their world.
